Band Together for Rivers and Rights
Greetings on behalf of the Host Committee of Rendezvous for Rivers!
I’m Ken Greenstein and my day job is helping tenants in San Francisco know their rights, an issue I’m extremely passionate about. Environmental protection and music are two other passions of mine, which are coming together at this year’s Rendezvous for Rivers. As a member of the International Rivers’ Board of Directors and the all-male a capella group Conspiracy of Beards, I invite you to join me to celebrate river defenders throughout the world and enjoy a parade of great transboundary entertainment on Sunday, June 9th at Public Works in San Francisco.
This year’s event will be stellar: we’re flipping the traditional “fundraiser mingle” on it’s head and turning the event into a benefit concert featuring Rupa & The April Fishes, my own troupe Conspiracy of Beards, and great samba dancing featuring Ashlee George, the 2012 San Francisco Carnaval Queen! I’m thrilled to introduce my friend Rupa & (her awesome band) The April Fishes. Rupa sings in many different languages – including Hindi, Portuguese, and French – all languages of people who are demanding justice and the protection of rivers against destructive dams, and all languages spoken in the regions where International Rivers works (including Africa, Latin America and Asia). I am also proud to share that Conspiracy of Beards recently warmed up our voices on a New York tour and will be celebrating 10 years of performing the songs of Leonard Cohen at the Rendezvous for Rivers.
You won’t want to miss this unique evening of musical performance, while also joining the movement to protect the world’s great rivers.
