Introducing Our New Development Director: Meghan Wagner, CFRE

Meghan Wagner

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve made a stellar addition to our leadership team: Meghan Wagner joins us today as our Development Director. Meghan will be based in Seattle, and will work with our global staff.

Meghan is an experienced nonprofit development professional who brings over twelve years of fundraising excellence to International Rivers.

She has overseen both capital and annual campaigns, with a strong focus on major gift fundraising for both the YMCA of Greater Seattle and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in Washington. In key fundraising positions at TNC, she helped coordinate a $160M comprehensive fundraising campaign for the Washington State chapter. As the Director of Development at the YMCA of Greater Seattle, Meghan led association-wide annual fundraising campaign exceeding $4.5M and 12,000 donors.

Meghan’s career has combined her love of the outdoors with a deep engagement in philanthropy. She previously served as Board Chair and remains a board member of the YMCA Camping & Outdoor Leadership branch in Seattle, WA, which engages youth in the outdoors. She has also served as a board member on the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and was formerly chair of the Symposium for Major Gifts. While there, she was charged with enhancing the core competencies and major gift culture for organizations in the Pacific NW.

“At an early age, I was taught that our collective future is intrinsically linked with the ways we respect and protect nature,” Meghan wrote in a 2014 blog post, “and I have been a committed advocate in both my personal and volunteer pursuits to this cause.”

Kate Horner, Executive Director of International Rivers, said, "I am thrilled to welcome Meghan Wagner, with her impressive track record of mobilizing resources and building strategic partnerships, to International Rivers. As we begin implementing our ambitious five-year strategic plan, Meghan's proven ability to lead, collaborate and innovate to deliver on philanthropic goals is just what we need at this critical time."

"I am delighted to be joining the dynamic team at International Rivers," said Meghan. "It’s an exciting time to be part of the movement to protect rivers and defend the rights of river communities. I am excited to work for a global organization making an impact for river-dependent and dam-affected communities to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are respected. I have admired the work of the organization for quite some time, and now am ready to be part of the team of staff, board and volunteers to motivate and inspire others to understand the critical role rivers play in the health and wellbeing of people and our world."

Meghan holds both a BA and a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the University of Washington and has been a member of the AFP-Advancement Northwest chapter since 2009. She received her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credentials in 2016. She is also an avid skier and hiker and loves spending time outdoors with her family and friends, including her 14-year old lab, Loki Max.
