The Teesta River: A Photo Journey

The Teesta River flows through the length of Sikkim, India and is considered to be the lifeline of the state. The proposed 520 MW Teesta IV Dam is planned for the last free-flowing stretch of the Teesta River between the Teesta III Dam – currently under construction – and the Teesta V Dam, already completed. The proposed Teesta IV Dam and its construction, especially the intake tunnel, would destroy a sacred lake that is believed to be the heart of where a Lepcha clan (the original inhabitants of Sikkim) originated. The indigenous people of Sikkim continue to oppose the Teesta IV Dam, along with other hydropower development in the region, but they need our help. Please help spread the word about the threat to the Teesta River.
