Waking the Green Tiger: The Rise of the Green Movement in China

Date:
Monday, February 13, 2012

International Rivers is proud to be the local partner for the U.S. premiere of Waking the Green Tiger, an award-winning film about China's green movement. Featuring archival footage and interviews never before seen outside of China, this remarkable film tells the story of the successful campaign by farmers, activists and journalists to stop the Tiger Leaping Gorge Dam on the Jinsha River and save the villages from dams on the wild and untammed Nu River.

The documentary also tells the history of Chairman Mao's "war against nature" that ushered in decades of environmental destruction, and the remarkable movement to reverse this trend on both the local and national levels.
