Hidrovias en el Amazonia

As part of the South America Initiative for Infrastructure Integration (IIRSA) several waterways, or hidrovias are planned in the main rivers of the Peruvian Amazon. The studies have begun. Despite the apparent social and environmental virtues of the old world experience the transformation of Amazonian rivers in waterways pose new problems that must be considered carefully. This paper discusses the pros and cons and social environment waterways in the Peruvian Amazon, where 5023 kms of river channalization are planned.
