In April 2008, the CDM Executive Board responded to the South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers and People's letter regarding the Jorethang Loop hydropower project. The letter contends: "On behalf of the Chair of the Board, I inform you that the project obtained an Environment Impact Assessment clearance from the Government of India which addressed all stakeholder comments and it is the prerogative of the host country to decide whether a project contributes to sustainable development."
