Damming Shangrila: Dam Building and Security in the Himalayas

Himalayan glacierJoin well-known journalist Isabel Hilton at the University of San Francisco for discussion and analysis of dam building in the Himalayan region, followed by Q&A and a reception.  Isabel Hilton is the founder and CEO of China Dialogue. A veteran journalist and China expert, she has worked for The Sunday Times, The Independent, The Guardian, and The New Yorker.  She is perhaps best known for her book, The Search for the Panchen Lama.

The Third Pole -- the Himalayan region so named because it is the largest reserve of water outside the Poles -- is prone to earthquakes, subject to tensions between neighbors and afflicted by climate change. It is also one of the world's dam building hotspots.  Will dam building build security or add to the risks?
