"Lives of Ou River" follows the daily lives of Khmu villagers that depend on the vibrant nature and rich biodiversity of the Ou River in Northern Laos. The river originates in China's Yunnan province on the mountain ridge between China and Laos. Villagers in the Ou River Valley still enjoy subsistence living along the well-preserved riverbanks, sustained by the Ou's bountiful drinking water, aquaculture and transportation routes. The local people call the river their vein. This documentary chronicles the intimate relationship fostered between villagers and the fragile ecosystems around them. The valley's abundant biodiversity protects the villagers' peaceful lifestyle for generations to come.
