Chile's Eco-Controversy on CBCNews In Canada

The Patagonia campaign continues to gain momentum on many fronts.  We have just this week launched an internet letter writing campaign to put the pressure on ENEL in Italy. If you have not had a chance to sign up, this is a great time to take action and send it on to your friends.

Of interest to Canadians (and others!) are the recent advances by our partners at Probe International to pressure the Canadian Pension Plan to come clean on their involvement with plans for Dirty Hydro in Patagonia. CPP is a major investor in Transelec, the company that wants to build several thousands of kilometers of high tension power lines through some of the most pristine wildlands on the planet.

The special role that International Rivers plays in connecting communities resisting giant dam projects and effective allies overseas is evident in this relationship with Probe International.

Our friend and partner Juan Pablo Orrego from the Chilean group Ecosistemas had a chance to travel up to Canada late last year and work directly with Probe International, and one of the results was a very interesting news piece on CBCNews. You can watch the documentary piece here on the CBCNews website. Give it a look, and share the news!

Stay tuned for more news--Juan Pablo will be traveling to Istanbul for alternative activities to the World Water Forum 5, and next week I am traveling to Chile and will plan on blogging from the region of Aysén in Patagonia.
