Take Action to Protect Rivers during COP17

From November 28 to December 9, 2011, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa – COP17 – will bring together governments, international organizations, industry, and civil society to advance the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The hydropower industry and major financial institutions like the World Bank will use COP17 as an opportunity to greenwash hydropower.
Healthy rivers are essential for a healthy planet. Here are two things you can do today to call on the world's powers to invest in truly renewable energy:
Send a letter to your country's World Bank Executive Director asking the World Bank to stop funding large destructive hydropower projects with your taxpayer dollars.
Send a letter to the Secretariat of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) asking them to keep the World Bank out of the Green Climate Fund, and ensure that reservoir emissions are included in national greenhouse gas inventories.
