For Russia's Rivers
On March 14, 2011, teachers and schoolchildren in the village of Khtastyr, an indigenous Evenk community in the southern part of Russia's Sakha Republic, gathered on the still-frozen Aldan River to demonstrate their hope to save their rivers and traditional reindeer herding lands from the planned South Yakutia hydrodam cascade. Raising Awareness in Protection of the Biliu River
Blue Dalian, a group fighting to protect the Biliu River in Northeast China, planned a series of creative events on March 14. First they held a painting activity where organizers invited women and children to paint green bags around the themes of river protection, and low-carbon life. Organizers and participants also created an "Environmental Aspiration Wall" on which people could stick their own environmental aspirations. The third event organized by Blue Dalian, was entitled Urban River, and adults were invited to speak about the changes to the river city of Dalian and share their own experiences.
