Climate Justice Protests Ongoing at Copenhagen
The latest:
- Climate
justice protest outside the Bella Center (where COP15 is being held) by
Greenpeace this morning, calling out "Don't leave youth out in the
cold" as they stood in the 7 degrees C weather in swimsuits. Brief
video to come.
-
The emergence of the leaked text (PDF)
by the Danish PM sparked an impromptu protest from members of the Pan
African Climate Justice Alliance, who marched through the Bella Centre
chanting "Two degrees is suicide, One Africa, one degree." Click here to read more.
- A number of options for supporting Africa's transition and adaptation to climate change are floating around among researchers and negotiators, including one by France that seeks to increase Africa's access to clean energy. Some of these options will be controversial, especially if done poorly, such as the Clean Development Mechanism and receiving credits from reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD).
On the same note, but in a slightly different tone, check out this quick video, "After the jump," by the self proclaimed "King of Eco Rap," Lil Peppi, a friend of mine found. While it ends with recycling (the catch-all but no longer sufficient sign of environmental consciousness), it's a great performance to share with your friends and family. The Planet Money podcast is also worth checking out.
